Synopsis:

They came to earth—Pestilence, War, Famine, Death—four horsemen riding their screaming steeds, racing to the corners of the world. Four horsemen with the power to destroy all of humanity. They came to earth, and they came to end us all.

The day Jerusalem falls, Miriam Elmahdy knows her life is over. Houses are burning, the streets run red with blood, and a traitorous army is massacring every last resident. There is no surviving this, especially not once Miriam catches the eye of War himself. But when the massive and terrifying horseman corners Miriam, he calls her his wife, and instead of killing her, he takes her back to his camp.

Now Miriam faces a terrifying future, one where she watches her world burn town by town, and the one man responsible for it all is her seemingly indestructible “husband”. But there’s another side to him, one that’s gentle and loving and dead set on winning her over, and she might not be strong enough to resist.

However, if there’s one thing Miriam has learned, it’s that love and war cannot coexist. And so she must make the ultimate choice: surrender to War and watch humankind fall, or sacrifice everything and stop him.

Banner for War

After reading Pestilence last year, and enjoying the hell out of it, I could not wait to read War. I love apocalyptic books that not only mix in a story of survival, but add in a dash of romance and a light fictional take on Biblical references, and I am all over it. Just like his brother Pestilence, as one of the four horsemen, War is also a cruel and stubborn anti-hero. But as the current terror on humanity, he meets his match with a just as stubborn heroine named Miriam.

The romance in this book is a very slow-burn and a hate-to-love mess of attraction, loathing, and adamant quarreling. The chemistry between the two main characters is fiery and teeth-clinching. While War is determined to do his holy job by destroying humanity, Miriam’s goal is to save mankind by defying War’s orders. However, as a divine being, it’s hard for Miriam to get an upper hand on his destruction.

The entire book is action-packed, but oftentimes the internal and external battles are so exhausting and heartbreaking. Compassion plays a huge part in War, while the struggle between holy duties and redemption is tugged and pulled back and forth throughout the pages. I am looking forward to see how the next of the four horsemen reigns the earth.

Swirl break
